Authors: Dr. Nagalakshmi.S , India

The Sanskrit language has made two great contributions to the development and progress of science in ancient India.   The great grammarian Panini created classical Sanskrit, which enabled scientific ideas to be expressed with great precision, logic and elegance.  Science requires precision and logic.  In fact Sanskrit is not just one language there are several Sanskrits, what we call today is a panini’s Sanskrit  also known as classical Sanskrit also known as laukik Sanskrit  and this is what is taught in our schools and universities, and it is in this language that all our scientists wrote their great works.
A written language like classical Sanskrit in which scholars could express and communicate ideas to other scholars living far away with great precision and clarify as thus absolutely necessary for the development of science and this is the great achievement of Panini.
